Ribbing of the cotton is the design in which vertical or horizontal rib like structure is unfold on surface of the fabric. The weaving of the cotton rib is may be regular or irregular, horizontal or vertical. This depends on the draft that show movement of held shaft on weaving loom. Ribbed fabric is a kind of knitting that creates the appearance of raised vertical lines in the fabric. So, a cotton ribbed item is a t-shirt, sweater, dress, blanket, or other item that is knitted from cotton in a rib pattern.
Ribbed fabrics are created by intermeshing loops of yarns using knitting needles. Depending on the direction in which the loops are formed, knitted fabrics may be broadly categorized into two types—warp knitted fabrics and weft knitted fabrics. By controlling the loop geometry and density, a wide variety of knitted fabrics can be produced. Because of the looped structure, the maximum fibre volume fraction of knitted fabric composites is lower than that of the woven or braided fabric composites. Weft knitted fabrics are less stable , stretchable and distortion more easily than warp knitted fabrics , they are also more formable. In order to enhance the mechanical properties, yarns can be integrated into the knit loops. In this way, fabric can be tailored for having stable properties in certain directions and conformability .

It increases the subsequent remedial costs of the fabric finishing and garment manufacturing process as a result of defective fabric.
- Reducing customer discontent: It is required to met the requirements of the customers for ribbed fabric, which may cause a bad impact on the company’s reputation. Fabrics have advanced a stage of high performance materials and also being capable of reacting to the environment. These materials have conductive elements knitted into the product and are termed as ‘smart fabrics’. The most common fibre used in the manufacture of ribbed fabric is cotton which is highly comfort and easy to wear.
